Whites Autocentre provide car servicing, repairs and MOTs for any make or model of car and light commercial vehicle at their Plymouth based garage. Our MOTs will ensure your vehicle has been properly maintained and meets requirements of the law, the test takes around 45 minutes to complete. If any service is needed on your car we will offer free advice but we will always advise you first of any additional work and the costs involved. We will NOT proceed with any work without your authorisation.
When to get an MOT
Our MOT test in Plymouth checks that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards.
You MUST get an MOT for your vehicle by either:
- The third anniversary of its registration.
- The anniversary of its last MOT, if it’s over 3 years old.
However, some vehicles need to be tested at one years old. Check the MOT fees table to see which.
You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT.
Failing the MOT
If your vehicle fails our MOT:
- You’ll get a refusal of an MOT test certificate from our Plymouth test centre.
- It will be recorded in the MOT database.
Your vehicle needs to meet the minimum standards of road-worthiness at all times or you can be fined.
You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.
It’s not worth the risk
Many drivers think driving without an up-to-date MOT certificate is something they don’t have to worry about. They think having it done even a few months after the expiry date is fine. Figures show how common this attitude is with a third of car owners admitting to having driven a car without a valid MOT certificate.
Waited a week before taking to an MOT testing centre.
Waited a month before taking to an MOT testing centre.
Waited more than six months before taking to an MOT testing centre.
Allowed their MOT to lapse by more than half a year.
The major benefit of getting a full car service is that all your car problems are solved, such as leaks from hoses, cylinders, and the radiator etc. From an MOT service from White Autocentre Plymouth you will know about the condition of your car battery, brake pads, suspension, oil leaks, steering alignment and much more. In other words, driving without a valid MOT can carry a financial risk and could put other people in danger on the roads. Your insurer will declare your cover to be invalid, no matter how much you’ve paid for it, if involved in an accident. You would either have to decide to pay for the repairs yourself, or potentially have it written off.
Even worse, you could suffer extreme emotional distress or life-long guilt if a faulty vehicle you owned injured or killed someone after going wrong on the road. Please keep your MOT up-to-date with us at Whites Autocentre based in Milbay, Plymouth.
